Pure Buddha Art

The attached photograph is of a framed three-dimensional cast-paper Bodhi Tree.
The head of Buddha is covered in 23 Karat gold leaf. Also available in pure white with white mat and frame. The actual piece is approximately 13” x 13”. The frame  measures 20.5” x 20.5 “.

These handmade paper castings are made from 100%
virgin cotton fiber. The paper and mat board are neutral ph archival quality, and will last indefinitely.

The original pieces are carved in either clay or plaster. A plaster mould is made, picking up all the details of the original. The pulp (called stuff) is beaten to loosen the fibres. The cotton consists of the short hairs left on the seeds after the longer fibres are ginned. The pulp is mixed with water in a large vat and a mould and deckle is dipped, picking up the desired thickness of stuff. The deckle is removed and the paper is inverted onto the mold. Excess water is sponged off, and the pulp is pressed into the
cavities. After drying, the finished casting is removed.

This follows the original paper making process invented in China in 105 CE. All handmade paper is made in the same way as it has been done for two thousand years.
